Shakira: A Tale Of Two Outfits

Shakira managed to register hits on both ends of the fashion scale last weekend, which is no small feat. We’ll take care of the fug first since the fab will make us happy again.

The better half of Gerard Piqué wore the cornea-searing Azzedine Alaïa ensemble in Cannes on Friday to receive her Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Minister of Culture. Translation: she’s good at what she does and France wanted to tell her that.

We think this entire look is awful. The dress (separates? we can’t tell) doesn’t seem to be appropriate for this kind of event (also, it’s ugly) and the boots look like something a housewife picked up at the BOGO sale at Payless because she thought they were trendy.

We’ll say no more because it does get better. On to the fab.

Shakira: Necessary Restyle

We haven’t said a lot about Shakira’s style. She doesn’t dress like a crazy person nor has she ever really wowed us with anything. She’s beige.

Now that it’s apparent that her relationship with Señor Piqué may go the distance, we think it’s time to step in here. This dress is, well, hideous. There’s really no nice way to say that. Shakira was honored as the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year in Las Vegas on Wednesday night and she chose to wear a mermaid prom dress from 2004.

We can think of about a million better options for her, but in the interest of saving time, here’s just one.
