Fash Files: Sylvie van der Vaart Loves Elie Saab

Everyone has a go-to designer for the plethora of red carpet events we all attend, right?
*crickets*
Exactly. In our fantasy world, we would have Marchesa’s near-wearable art at our beck and call and we’d be having tea and Hobnobs with designer Georgina Chapman every second Tuesday.
When Sylvie van der Vaart needs a glitzy frock she turns to Lebanese designer Elie Saab. His stunning creations are a staple on red carpets from the Oscars to movie premieres (and thanks to Sylvie), German awards shows. The Dutch goddess wore a modified version of this georgeous purple sequined number from his Fall 2010 collection to the Golden Camera Awards in Berlin on Saturday night. Her turquoise jeweled sandals are courtesy of Giuseppe Zanotti.

Sylvie also wore Elie Saab to last year’s Golden Camera Awards – and who can forget her Elie Saab Couture wedding dress?
Here’s the thing: out of all the Elie Saab dresses in the universe, we feel Sylvie’s recent choice is a tad monotonous and uncreative. Why choose something so similar? Then again, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it; she looks fab in both.
If we may make a suggestion for next year’s show, how about this lovely blue gown from the Spring 2011 collection? Call us, Syl.

Oh well Elie Saab is just an amazing couturier, he dressed Scarlett Johansson at the latest Golden Globes and Katy Perry on her big wedding day, just to mention a couple of people. Sylvie clearly loves his style but i think that when you have the possibility to choose all the designers in the world you’d better get the most of it!
If it was up to me to choose a red carpet designer i’d definitely go for Alexander Mcqueen or Emilio Pucci, or even mr Saab, why not!
